Meet Our Staff

Sue Short
Collaborative Ministry Team
Sue is a proclaimer who is passionate about worship, the movement of the Holy Spirit, and the love of God. Believing strongly that all Christians have gifts for service and ministry, Sue sees herself as one who names and encourages the giftings of others. She and her husband have four young adult children, a son-in-law and a daughter-in-law. Her perfect evening would include a cup of ginger tea and a stack of novels. There would also be some cookies involved. Sue loves nature photography, live theatre, Cleveland Guardians baseball, museums, and watching movies. She has an MDiv from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary.

John David Thacker
Collaborative Ministry Team
John David is inspired by the life and teaching of Jesus and aspires to follow him in his mission of reconciliation, bringing healing and hope to the world. He enjoys preaching, teaching, and witnessing God working in the lives of people. Church camping was a powerful influence in his life, and he continues to volunteer at church camps whenever possible. John David is a graduate of Goshen College and Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary. He pastored for 14 years in Anchorage, Alaska and in 2023 completed a year-long chaplaincy residency at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, W. Va. He enjoys reading, hiking, birding, and playing board games.

Administrative Assistant
Bethany Stuckey
Bethany is the administrative assistant at Zion. You will find her answering the phone or welcoming you into the office if you stop by. She grew up in Iowa and met her husband at Hesston College. She pursued a social work degree and worked in the social work world for about a decade before joining the Zion team. Bethany has four girls and appreciated the convenience of the preschool just downstairs as they started into the world of school. She enjoys spending time reading and watching Nebraska football, but mostly her time is spent running her kids to all of their activities and cheering them on. Bethany has a deep appreciation for all the relationships that she has made with the Zion congregation. She believes that every day there are God orchestrated opportunities for serving others and showing His love. A meaningful verse that has stuck with her has been 2 Timothy 1:7, For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control (RSV).

Our Mission
By God's grace, Zion Mennonite Church will be a House of Peace where all people are invited to share in Christ's love with each other and the world.
Meet our partners
We share our building with Child's World Preschool, a Christ-centered preschool, and LAMP (Logistic Assistance for Migrant People), a non-profit organization supporting immigrants in the United States with issues of legal status, medical issues, housing, and everyday needs such as food and clothing.
